Reading for Change book group
The Reading for Change Book Discussion Group will explore Race and Ethnicity Equity and Inclusion (REEI). Through group discussion, we will expand our knowledge of systemic racism and intersectional social justice issues, examining how we uphold these systems of inequality, and identify steps we can take to combat inequalities. We hope to provide an inclusive space to explore meaningful change. This group will spend two or three months discussing one title so that we have time to unpack the topics in the book and look for ways we can impact change in the community. This book group will meet the last Wednesday of the month at 1:00.
In April we will be discussing The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
This is the story of Esperanza Cordero, a young girl growing up in the Hispanic quarter of Chicago with all its hard realities of life. She captures her thoughts and emotions in poems and stories in order to rise above the hopelessness and create a space for herself.
